Pakistan Conditions Normalization of Relations with Taliban Administration on Written Guarantees
Pakistan’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs has announced that the country’s relations with the Taliban administration have not yet been normalized. Any normalization is conditional upon receiving written guarantees from the Taliban, ensuring that no group can use Afghan territory to launch attacks against Pakistan.
Pakistan’s Foreign Minister, Ishaq Dar, stated that groups such as the Tehreek-e-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) and the Baloch Liberation Army (BLA) are present in Afghanistan and use it as a base to act against Pakistan. He emphasized that the Afghanistan issue and the security threats arising from it are among the core topics in Islamabad’s regional dialogues.
Meanwhile, following a meeting between the foreign ministers of Canada and Pakistan, a joint statement announced discussions on the situation in Afghanistan and the ongoing threat of terrorism. Both sides agreed to strengthen their security cooperation, particularly in combating terrorism and transnational organized crime.
Canada’s Foreign Minister, Anita Anand, during her visit to Islamabad, met with the Prime Minister, the Chief of Army Staff, and Pakistan’s Foreign Minister. According to Ishaq Dar, the meetings addressed regional and international developments, including the issue of Afghanistan.
In recent months, Pakistan has repeatedly raised concerns with foreign officials about the presence of armed groups in Afghanistan, viewing it as a threat to its security. This issue has become one of the main obstacles to normalizing Islamabad’s relations with the Taliban administration.
