Taliban Official Stresses Greater Attention to Education for Afghanistan’s Progress

Sheikh Abdul Baqi Haqqani, head of the Taliban’s Independent Examination Authority, emphasized that serious attention to science and education is essential for Afghanistan’s advancement, and efforts to encourage youth to pursue higher education should be strengthened. He made these remarks during a ceremony honoring candidates with high scores in the university entrance exam (Kankor). Haqqani claimed that after years of challenges, the country is now governed under an “Islamic system,” creating new conditions. According to him, the current situation offers more equal opportunities for young people’s education and progress, enabling the younger generation to play a fundamental role in the country’s reconstruction and development. The head of the Independent Examination Authority reiterated the value of knowledge and education, urging increased focus on the education sector and support for youth pursuing higher academic levels. These statements come amid ongoing extensive challenges faced by Afghanistan’s education system in recent years.
