Taliban Official Reviews Sustainable Projects for Returnee Migrants in Baghlan and Kunduz

Mawlawi Abdul Rahman Rashid, the Deputy Minister of the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations under the Taliban administration, met with the Deputy of the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) office to assess the progress of sustainable projects aimed at migrants and returnees in the northern Afghan provinces of Baghlan and Kunduz.
According to the Ministry of Refugees and Repatriations, the meeting reviewed projects implemented by the UN High Commissioner for Refugees (UNHCR), the International Organization for Migration (IOM), the UN Human Settlements Programme (UN-Habitat), and the UN Development Programme in the two provinces. These initiatives primarily focus on supporting returnees and improving their economic and social conditions.
The Ministry’s technical deputy emphasized the critical role of international organizations in addressing migrant-related challenges and called for the facilitation of program implementation. He also stressed the need for enhanced coordination among relevant departments to remove existing obstacles. In recent years, returnee migrants in some provinces have faced difficulties accessing basic services and employment opportunities.
On the other hand, the UNDP Deputy welcomed the ongoing cooperation and highlighted the importance of holding regular coordination meetings, establishing joint structures with sectoral offices, and forming technical teams to tackle problems. He stated that the purpose of these projects is to strengthen economic growth and improve the livelihoods of migrants in Afghanistan.
In conclusion, both parties agreed to continue collaboration and coordination to advance economic and social projects specific to migrants and to achieve their shared goals.
