Taliban’s Foreign Minister Met Qatar’s Emir to Condole Former Emir’s Passing

Mawlawi Amir Khan Muttaqi, acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban administration, traveled to Doha, the capital of Qatar, on Wednesday, July 15, leading an official delegation. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that during this visit, he conveyed the Taliban leadership’s condolences and sympathy on the passing of Sheikh Hamad bin Khalifa Al Thani, the former Emir of Qatar, to Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, the current Emir of Qatar.

According to the ministry’s statement, Muttaqi also held meetings with several senior Qatari officials. Among these meetings was a session with Sheikh Mohammed bin Abdulrahman Al Thani, the Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs of Qatar.

The acting Foreign Minister of the Taliban also engaged in talks with Sheikh Saud bin Abdulrahman bin Hassan Al Thani, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Defense of Qatar, and Dr. Mohammed bin Abdulaziz Al Khalifa, Minister of State for Foreign Affairs of Qatar.

No additional details about the discussions have been released. However, Qatar has been one of the main hosts for diplomatic meetings and contacts related to Afghanistan in recent years, maintaining relations with the Taliban administration since the group took control of Kabul.
