Lavrov Calls Renewed US Attacks a Violation of Agreement with Iran

Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s Foreign Minister, stated that the resumption of United States attacks against Iran constitutes a violation of the previously signed understanding between Tehran and Washington. Speaking at a press conference on Tuesday, he expressed Moscow’s view that this action breaches accepted commitments and described it as concerning.
Following a meeting with his Chadian counterpart Abdullah Sabri, Lavrov emphasized that the continued attacks not only harm Iran’s civilian infrastructure but also put civilian facilities in Gulf Cooperation Council countries at risk. According to him, this course of action “will not lead to any positive outcome.”
Reports indicate that the US and Israel initiated hostilities against Iran on February 28. In June, Tehran and Washington signed an understanding to immediately cease hostilities on all fronts, including Lebanon. Subsequently, talks were held in the Swiss resort of Burgnstock, mediated by Doha and Islamabad.
A joint statement from Qatar and Pakistan after the first round of negotiations stated that the meeting, attended by representatives from Iran and the US, took place in a “positive and constructive” atmosphere and yielded progress, including creating grounds for further technical consultations.
However, on July 8, the United States resumed its extensive attacks, accusing Iran of violating agreements related to the Strait of Hormuz. Five days later, Ismail Baqaei, spokesperson for Iran’s Foreign Ministry, declared that Tehran had never violated the understanding and placed the responsibility for its non-implementation on Washington.
