Woman and Child Rescued After Seven Years of Illegal Imprisonment in Takhar Province

The Takhar Police Command announced that a woman and her child have been freed after nearly seven years of illegal imprisonment in Rustaq district of the province. According to the command, this action was taken following reports from local residents and timely police intervention.

Based on provided information, the woman was imprisoned about seven years ago by her husband in a dilapidated building in the village of Peshkand in Rustaq district; a place that authorities say was used for keeping livestock. The woman’s child was also confined in the same location by the same individual several years ago.

Officials stated that after their release, both were transferred to Rustaq district hospital to receive medical treatment and care. Following this incident, one suspect has been arrested and the case is under comprehensive investigation by security and investigative agencies.

The Takhar Police Command expressed sympathy for the victims and emphasized that necessary measures will be taken to ensure justice and protect citizens’ rights. However, this incident has raised concerns about domestic violence and the lack of effective oversight on violations of women’s rights in remote areas—a matter that requires serious and transparent attention from the Taliban administration and responsible institutions.

Security officials have urged Takhar residents to immediately report similar cases to security agencies to prevent such incidents from happening again.
