Floods in Eight Provinces Claim Five Lives and Cause Extensive Damage

In the past 48 hours, severe floods, storms, and landslides have resulted in at least five deaths across eight provinces in the country, leaving widespread damage. The affected areas include various parts of Kabul, Zabul, Kandahar, Samangan, Takhar, Nangarhar, Laghman, and Kunar.
Yousuf Hammad, spokesperson for the Taliban’s Natural Disaster Preparedness Department, stated that during this period, 30 houses and 15 shops have been partially destroyed, and 86 kilometers of roads have been damaged or wiped out. According to him, a water supply network and a bridge were also destroyed due to these events.
He added that around 300 livestock have died and a large amount of agricultural land has been damaged, which could directly impact the livelihoods of the residents in these areas. Residents of some regions had previously complained about the lack of preventive measures and immediate response during natural disasters.
The Taliban spokesperson emphasized that the process of assessing the extent of the damage and providing aid to affected families is ongoing. However, experts continually stress the need for effective planning, strengthening infrastructure, and transparent management in responding to natural events in the country.
