Death of Abdul Rahman Andarabi, Iconic Anti-Taliban Resistance Leader in Afghanistan

The National Resistance Front of Afghanistan and the Green Trend have each confirmed the death of Abdul Rahman Andarabi, a commander opposing the Taliban administration. He was a well-known figure of resistance in northern Afghanistan, whose name in recent years became closely associated with armed struggle against the Taliban.

Andarabi became a symbolic figure of the resistance in 2022 when a widely circulated social media image showed him in a mountainous area alongside the body of his son, who had been martyred fighting the Taliban. This photo received extensive attention and became, for many opponents of the Taliban administration, a symbol of the human cost of the war and steadfast resistance against the group.

The Green Trend published a statement referring to Andarabi as a person who, under difficult circumstances, refused to live under Taliban rule and remained steadfast in his position. Abdullah Khanjani, head of the political office of the National Resistance Front, praised his courage and sacrifice on the social media platform X, stating that Andarabi defended his people during hard times and remained committed until his last moments.

Mohammad Ismail Khan, a former jihadi commander, also expressed condolences on the death of this anti-Taliban commander, emphasizing that he paid a heavy price on this path, even sacrificing his children in the defense of his homeland and the freedom of his people.

Abdul Rahman Andarabi was active for years among the anti-Taliban forces in northern Afghanistan. While the Taliban administration has continuously suppressed its armed opponents, figures like Andarabi are regarded by parts of society as symbols of resistance and steadfastness.
