Trump Urges Swift Approval of $350 Billion Pentagon Budget via Budget Reconciliation

Donald Trump, the President of the United States, has called on Republican members of Congress to quickly pass the supplementary $350 billion defense budget bill through the “budget reconciliation” process. This request comes as Democrats uniformly oppose the increase in military spending.

According to Al Jazeera, Trump is attempting to approve this financial package without requiring the 60-vote threshold in the Senate, relying instead on a simple majority. The budget reconciliation mechanism allows the ruling party to expedite certain financial bills faster than the usual legislative process.

The White House has described this move as part of a broader plan to fund the 2027 defense budget, which totals $1.5 trillion, with $350 billion of it expected to be passed through this special procedure.

In opposition, nearly all Democratic representatives consider this budget increase a factor that will exacerbate the US deficit and have warned about its economic consequences. The disagreement over defense spending has intensified amid increased costs imposed on the US military budget by the country’s foreign and military policies in recent years, including tensions with countries such as Iran.
