Opposition Military Fronts Intensify Attacks Against Taliban Administration

Amid ongoing insecurity in the country, military fronts opposing the Taliban administration have announced a surge in their guerrilla attacks on the forces of this administration. Alongside the National Resistance Front and the Afghanistan Liberty Front, which are among the earliest armed groups opposing the Taliban, two additional factions have now entered the fray.
According to reports, the military unit “Green Trend” and the “Afghanistan Freedom and Justice Movement” have also begun their military and guerrilla activities against the Taliban administration. It is reported that these groups have organized targeted operations in certain areas.
The National Resistance Front was formed after the fall of the previous regime in 2021 and has mainly operated in some mountainous regions. The Afghanistan Liberty Front emerged in the months following and has claimed responsibility for several attacks against Taliban forces.
The expansion of these fronts’ activities occurs while the Taliban administration continues to claim nationwide security—a claim that faces serious questions amid ongoing clashes and armed attacks in some provinces. Analysts believe that the increase in these attacks could indicate ongoing dissatisfaction and a lack of broad political consensus within the current power structure.
