18 Killed and 29 Injured in Migrant Vehicle Overturn on Kabul-Jalalabad Highway

Eighteen people have died and 29 others were injured after a vehicle carrying migrants overturned on the Kabul-Jalalabad highway. The Laghman provincial Media and Public Relations Office reported that the incident occurred early Saturday morning at around 5:30 AM near the Sarkh Kani crossroads in Laghman province. According to the information provided, among the deceased are 10 children, 5 women, and 3 men. Additionally, the 29 injured were transferred to medical centers in Nangarhar province for further treatment. The Laghman media office added that traffic officials and members of the migrant affairs committee were dispatched to the scene shortly after the incident and initiated the process of transporting the injured. The Kabul-Jalalabad highway is known as one of the country’s busiest and most congested routes, having experienced deadly traffic accidents in past years. Experts have consistently emphasized the need for stricter supervision of vehicle conditions, speed management, and improved safety measures by the Taliban administration—an issue once again called into question following the recurrence of such accidents.
