UNICEF Expands Mother and Child Nutrition Services in Afghanistan with World Bank Support

The United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF) announced that, with the support of the World Bank, it has brought high-quality health services for mothers and children, as well as malnutrition treatment, closer to local communities across various regions of Afghanistan.

In a recently published report, the organization stated that its health workers, including nutrition advisors, are engaged in assessing the condition of children and providing specialized advice to families in Kunar province. In one instance, Basmina, a nutrition advisor, evaluated the health status of a one-year-old child named Shaheen in this province.

UNICEF emphasized that the goal of these programs is to improve families’ access to essential health services, especially in remote areas, and to prevent and treat malnutrition among young children.

Afghanistan is among the countries where many children face the risk of malnutrition. International organizations are striving to reduce this challenge by expanding community-level health services.
