50 Gold Miners Rescued in Badakhshan After Amu Darya Flooding

At least 50 workers trapped in a gold mine in the Awiz area of Badakhshan’s central district following a sudden rise in the Amu Darya River water levels have been rescued by forces of the Taliban’s Ministry of Defense. According to officials, the incident took place within Tajikistan’s territory.

Noorullah Nazari, spokesperson for the Third Army Corps, stated that the sudden increase in water levels caused flooding in the gold mining workshops and blocked the workers’ escape routes. As a result, the miners were trapped on site due to the rising water.

Nazari added that the Ministry of Defense forces launched a rescue operation and deployed helicopters to evacuate the workers from the area to safety.

The official confirmed that none of the workers were injured in the incident and all are in good health.
