Over 235,000 Tons of Goods Transported via Afghan Railways in One Week

The Head of Afghanistan’s Railway Authority announced that over the past week, 235,326 tons of goods were transported through the country’s three major railway routes: Hairatan, Aqina, and Turghundi. According to the authority, exports accounted for 11,092 tons of this total, with dried fruit constituting the majority of the exported goods.

These routes are among Afghanistan’s key trade corridors, facilitating the movement of imports and exports between Afghanistan and its neighboring countries. Hairatan port in the north, Aqina in Faryab province, and Turghundi in Herat province play vital roles in regional commerce.

Officials from the Railway Authority stated that they are striving to expand and improve operations daily to provide greater convenience to traders and deliver quality services. However, several traders have consistently emphasized the need to develop infrastructure, reduce transportation costs, and expedite administrative procedures.

Economic experts believe that strengthening the railway networks could significantly reduce transport costs, boost exports, and enhance regional trade growth in Afghanistan—a goal that requires sustainable planning and transparent management by the Taliban administration.
