Taliban Leadership Emphasizes Compliance with Supreme Leader’s Orders at Kandahar Meeting

The periodic meeting of the Coordination Council of Governors of the southwest zone was held on Wednesday, May 6, under the chairmanship of Mullah Mohammad Shirin Akhund, the Taliban-appointed governor of Kandahar. During the meeting, emphasis was placed on the implementation of the orders and directives of Mullah Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban.

According to a statement from the Taliban governor’s office in Kandahar, the governors of Zabul, Helmand, Uruzgan, and Daykundi provinces, along with the commander of the 205 Al-Badr Army Corps, officials from police headquarters, military courts, and several military commanders from these provinces attended the meeting.

Mullah Mohammad Shirin Akhund urged Taliban officials to prioritize security and to pay greater attention to this sector. He also stressed the need for increased coordination among security and military agencies.

The governor of Kandahar plays a central role in the Taliban administration and, in addition to overseeing this province, is responsible for supervising several neighboring provinces. Governors, security officials, army personnel, and intelligence agents from these provinces are required to report to him, highlighting the significant concentration of authority in Kandahar.

Mullah Mohammad Shirin Akhund is considered a close associate of the Taliban leader, which is why most major governors’ meetings are held in Kandahar. The Taliban leader also resides in this province, and Kandahar is heavily guarded under strict security measures.
