Identity of Hilton Hotel Shooting Suspect Revealed by US Authorities

US security officials have disclosed the identity of the individual accused of the shooting at the annual White House Correspondents’ Association dinner. According to Washington police, the suspect is 31-year-old Cole Thomas Allen, a California resident, who was arrested Saturday evening at the venue, the Washington Hilton hotel.

Jeffrey Carroll, Chief of the Washington Police Department, stated in a press conference that preliminary investigations indicate the suspect was a guest at the same hotel hosting the dinner event. He added that a hotel room is currently under security control and will be examined following legal procedures. Carroll noted that initial evidence suggests the suspect acted alone.

According to CNN reports and public records, Allen worked as a teacher and video game developer in Southern California. His LinkedIn profile lists him as a part-time instructor at the educational institute “C2 Education,” which named him “Teacher of the Month” in December 2024. However, the company has not yet responded to media requests for comment.

Educational records reveal that Allen earned a bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering from the California Institute of Technology in 2017 and graduated last year with a degree in computer science from California State University, Dominguez Hills. Furthermore, Federal Election Commission data shows he donated $25 to Kamala Harris’s campaign in October 2024.

The District of Columbia prosecutor announced that the suspect will be formally charged in federal court on Monday, with the possibility of additional charges as more details emerge. Janine Freez, the district prosecutor, stated that two charges currently stand against him: “use of a firearm during a violent crime” and “assault on a federal officer with a dangerous weapon.”

According to prosecutors, a federal officer was injured in the incident, and preliminary findings indicate the attacker intended to inflict maximum harm. They emphasized that the swift response of security forces and the checkpoint outside the hotel prevented the situation from escalating further and brought it under control quickly.
