Landmine Explosion in Ghazni’s Qarabagh District Kills One

A landmine explosion in Qarabagh district of Ghazni province claimed the life of one person. The Ghazni Provincial Police Directorate announced in a statement that the incident occurred in the Askarkot area of this district.
According to security officials, the incident took place when an individual was plowing agricultural land with a tractor, and the vehicle came into contact with an old landmine buried underground. As a result of the explosion, the tractor driver lost his life.
Qarabagh is one of the districts in Ghazni province that has witnessed extensive fighting during the years of war and still has mines and unexploded ordnance scattered in some areas. Local residents have repeatedly expressed concern over the presence of leftover landmines.
Although the responsibility for clearing mine-contaminated areas lies with relevant agencies, the continuation of such incidents indicates that the mine clearance process has not progressed effectively and comprehensively, and civilians’ lives remain at risk. The Taliban administration has not yet provided details about any specific plans to accelerate the clearance of these areas.
