Taliban Urges Media to Promote Its ‘Achievements’ Ahead of Republic’s Fall Anniversary

The Taliban administration has intensified pressure on the media, requesting domestic media officials to produce and broadcast programs highlighting what it terms its ‘achievements’ to mark 24 Asad, the anniversary of the fall of the republic system.

The Bakhtar News Agency, controlled by the Taliban administration, reported on Sunday, 11 Asad, that Muhajir Farahi, the Deputy Director of Publications at the Ministry of Information and Culture under the Taliban, raised this request during a meeting with journalists and media officials. According to the official, both government and private media should create content on this subject.

Farahi also asked the media to reflect what he described as the ‘misconduct and harmful behaviors of the Pakistani military regime.’

These demands come amid widespread restrictions imposed on media activities since the Taliban’s return to power. During this period, dozens of journalists and media activists have been arrested, imprisoned, or reportedly subjected to violent treatments, according to media advocacy organizations — a trend that has heightened concerns about freedom of expression in the country.
