Several Shops Closed in Kandahar Over Unauthorized Price Hikes on Food Items

The spokesperson for Kandahar Municipality has announced that several shops within the city have been shut down by the municipality’s inspection team due to unauthorized increases in the prices of food items. Saifullah Asim told media outlets that this action was taken after some vendors raised food prices without considering the official rates. According to him, municipal inspection teams monitor shop activities across different areas of the city. Asim added that the campaign to control prices in Kandahar’s markets will continue, with the municipality striving to prevent unreasonable increases in the cost of basic goods. While Kandahar residents complain about the rising cost of living, the effectiveness and transparency of the Taliban administration’s price control measures have frequently been questioned by citizens. Many emphasize that fair and effective monitoring could help alleviate further economic pressure on families.
