The International Rescue Committee (IRC) has confirmed the death of one of its employees in a traffic accident in the Islam Qala area of Herat province. The incident occurred while the employee was returning after completing their duties.
According to the information provided, two other employees of the organization were also seriously injured in the accident. The injured individuals were immediately transferred to a hospital for urgent treatment, and their health condition is currently under observation.
In its statement, the IRC emphasized that frontline workers form a vital part of the organization’s mission and play a critical role in delivering humanitarian services to those in need. The organization highlighted the particular importance of these workers’ presence and efforts in Afghanistan, given the scattered communities in remote and difficult-to-access areas.
The IRC also stated that, in these challenging circumstances, it supports the family of the deceased employee, the injured staff, and their families, standing alongside its team members.
This humanitarian organization began its work in Afghanistan in 1988 and is currently operating in nine provinces across the country. The IRC provides services including primary healthcare, creation of safe educational spaces in rural areas, distribution of cash assistance, provision of emergency shelter, drinking water and sanitation services, as well as livelihood opportunities and resilience-building programs for vulnerable communities.
