Nearly 500 Police Officers Graduate in Herat, Set to Deploy Across Western Afghanistan

Local officials in Herat have announced that nearly five hundred police officers have graduated from the province’s police training center after completing military and specialized courses. These officers are scheduled to be deployed to five provinces in the western region to enhance security.
According to the center’s officials, the trainees received instruction in various areas including checkpoints, patrols, searches, security incident management, and criminal event investigation. They were also trained in counter-terrorism, kidnapping response, and how to manage gatherings and protests.
Ehsanullah Javid, an instructor at the Western Region Police Training Center, stated that the course covered ideological training, operational coordination, physical fitness, weapons handling, and proper procedures at checkpoints.
This marks the fifteenth graduation session from the Herat Police Training Center in nearly four years. The center reports that approximately ten thousand police officers have been trained through similar programs and are currently deployed to maintain security across western provinces.
However, observers emphasize that increasing security personnel can only improve conditions if accompanied by transparency, accountability, and respect for citizens’ rights—issues that have consistently raised concerns and questions regarding the performance of security institutions under Taliban administration.
