Two Maritime Attacks Reported off Yemen’s Coast

The United Kingdom Maritime Trade Operations (UKMTO) has reported a second maritime security incident within a single day in the waters off the coast of Yemen. According to the agency, a vessel was attacked approximately 116 nautical miles east of the port of Aden in southern Yemen.

Reports indicate that the assault led to a fire onboard the ship, caused by an unidentified projectile. Preliminary information suggests that the targeted vessel was an oil tanker carrying a crew of 26.

Earlier that day, in a separate incident, a Cameroon-flagged oil tanker issued a distress call after an explosion occurred on deck about 60 nautical miles south of Yemen. The crew announced plans to abandon the ship, prompting search and rescue operations by emergency response teams.

These incidents come amid a fragile ceasefire in Gaza brokered by U.S. President Donald Trump. Following the agreement, Hamas and the Israeli government initiated a prisoner exchange. In response to the truce, Yemen’s military announced it would halt its attacks on Israel but emphasized that it is closely monitoring the ceasefire conditions.
