Taliban Urges U.S. to Honor Doha Agreement Commitments

The Taliban administration on Sunday, September 21, issued an official statement responding to recent remarks by U.S. President Donald Trump, stressing the importance of Afghanistan’s “independence.”

According to the statement, released by the Taliban’s spokesperson, the group seeks “positive” relations with all countries based on “mutual interests and a balanced, economy-driven policy.” The Taliban claimed that—unlike in the past—it is now pursuing a more rational approach and that previous failed experiences should not be repeated.

Referring to the Doha Agreement signed under the former U.S. administration, the statement said Washington had committed to refraining from military pressure or interference in Afghanistan’s internal affairs. The Taliban urged U.S. officials to remain faithful to these commitments.

The statement also underscored that “Afghanistan’s independence and territorial integrity” remain fundamental to the group and must be respected by the United States. Despite such assertions, the Taliban continues to face serious challenges in ensuring security, upholding human rights, and maintaining transparent governance.

In recent days, President Trump has reiterated the necessity of regaining control of the Bagram Airbase, warning that if the Taliban resists, there could be negative consequences for them.
