Afghan Woman and Child Die in Boat Capsize off Turkish Coast

An Afghan woman and her three-year-old son died on Thursday, September 26, when a migrant boat capsized off the coast of Didim, Turkey.

The inflatable boat, carrying 45 migrants, overturned due to rough weather and high waves. Despite rescue efforts, 30-year-old Suweta Majidi and her son Ahmad lost their lives.

According to Turkish authorities, coast guard and medical teams responded quickly after receiving reports of the incident and launched a search-and-rescue operation. The bodies of the two victims were transferred to a local medical center.

Local officials confirmed that 43 other migrants aboard were rescued and later taken to the Aydın Coast Guard Command for official processing. The tragedy highlights once again the perilous journeys many Afghan refugees undertake as they flee insecurity, poverty, and mounting pressures under Taliban rule in search of safety in Europe.
