Taliban official urges investors to fund Afghanistan housing sector

Mullah Abdul Ghani Baradar, the economic deputy to the Taliban-run administration’s prime minister, has called on investors to put money into Afghanistan’s housing sector, as the country continues to face a shortage of homes and rising demand for shelter in cities.

He made the remarks at a ceremony to lay the foundation stone for block B4 of the “Peace Town” residential project for Microryan V in Kabul. According to him, investment in the housing sector could help meet part of Afghanistan’s need for housing and shelter.

Baradar also said that population growth in Kabul and a shortage of houses are problems that can be eased, to some extent, through residential projects. He urged the company implementing the project to observe standards and quality at every stage of the work.

Microryan is one of Kabul’s well-known residential areas, and similar projects are usually launched with the aim of responding to the growing demand for housing in the capital, a city that has in recent years faced population growth and pressure on urban services.
