One Kilogram of Meth and Over 1,000 Narcotic Pills Seized in Kabul

Kabul’s Counter-Narcotics Department has announced the seizure of a significant quantity of illicit drugs in the eastern district of the Afghan capital. According to an official statement, approximately one kilogram of crystal methamphetamine and 1,069 narcotic pills were discovered near Pul-e-Charkhi Gate.
Police say two men have been arrested in connection with the case and, following preliminary investigations, have been referred to judicial authorities.
The incident has once again raised concerns over rising drug availability in the capital and the Taliban administration’s inability to dismantle drug trafficking networks. Weakened security institutions, lack of preventive programs, and a failure to hold key figures accountable have contributed to the rise in such crimes.
As the number of drug addicts in the country continues to grow, sporadic crackdowns on low-level dealers without targeting major drug cartels are seen as ineffective. Citizens are calling on the Taliban to move beyond public displays and adopt a serious and transparent strategy to curb drug trafficking.
