Turki al-Faisal: Israel Is the Biggest Threat in the Region

Former Saudi intelligence chief Turki al-Faisal has warned of worsening global political and security conditions, stressing that the failure to resolve the Palestinian conflict and the neglect of UN resolutions directly undermine stability in the Middle East.
Speaking at a conference in Palermo, Italy, titled “The Middle East in a Changing World” and organized by the Italian foundation Med-Eur, al-Faisal criticized the United Nations Security Council, saying its failed policies and the use of veto power have prevented justice and fueled regional risks.
He described the current state of global order as “entering the age of beasts,” adding that the old international system is collapsing. He cited the Gaza conflict, the war in Ukraine, and Israel’s growing military actions as evidence of the weakness of international law. According to him, intensifying rivalries among major powers such as China, Russia, India, and the United States are accelerating new global alignments.
Al-Faisal further declared that Israel now represents the greatest threat to peace and security in the Middle East. He called for the creation of a fair international framework to resolve the Palestinian issue fundamentally.
He also highlighted the role of the Gulf Cooperation Council (GCC) and countries like Saudi Arabia in fostering peace and strengthening regional cooperation. Al-Faisal noted that U.S. political pressure, despite the end of the unipolar era, has pushed other countries to form new alliances, which in turn has contributed to rising international tensions.
