Over 9,000 Families Displaced in Kunar Amid Pakistan Rocket Attacks, Mental Health Crisis Looms

More than 9,000 families have been forced to abandon their homes due to rocket attacks by Pakistani forces on areas near the Durand Line in Kunar province. Officials from Kunar’s Directorate of Information and Culture confirm that the survey process of affected families is ongoing, with approximately 3,500 families registered so far.

Najeebullah Hanif, head of Kunar’s Information and Culture Department, stated that clashes continue and a number of families, due to new security concerns, have been compelled to leave their areas. According to him, survey teams are present in the affected regions and efforts to identify all displaced persons continue.

Residents of the border areas report that villages and streets are nearly empty, with only a few remaining to safeguard their properties and belongings. They add that children have been deprived of attending schools and many people avoid even going to mosques for fear of shelling.

One resident said that the ongoing situation has caused serious psychological effects on both children and adults, disrupting normal life. He added that the persistent fear of shelling has destroyed the families’ mental peace.

Based on information from local officials, just in the past 24 hours, 93 shells have hit Sarkano district, 35 in Manwara district, and 20 in Nari district. In addition to the threat to life, agricultural lands and orchards have also been damaged, jeopardizing the livelihoods of many families.

The continuation of these attacks raises serious questions about the security of border areas under Taliban administration. Kunar’s residents are calling for practical measures to prevent the recurrence of such incidents, which besides financial losses, have left deep social and psychological impacts on the local community.
