Residents of Pul-e-Alam Complain About Delays in Main Road Reconstruction Project

Several residents of Pul-e-Alam, the capital of Logar province, say that the reconstruction of the city’s main road, which began last autumn, has made little noticeable progress so far, causing daily life disruptions and difficulties for local shopkeepers.
According to the residents, the project’s progress has not even reached five percent. They criticize the Taliban local officials, saying that if the work had been carried out regularly and responsibly, the road would have been completed within a month. They claim that officials are seen at the site only once a week, while work is essentially halted on other days.
Residents emphasize that the digging and road damage have disrupted vehicle movement and negatively affected shopkeepers’ businesses. They believe that the lack of effective supervision and weak project management by the Taliban administration have caused long delays in development plans, which the people are forced to bear the consequences of.
In contrast, Pul-e-Alam municipality has announced that with the warming weather, the road reconstruction work has seriously resumed. Officials say this road extends from Shohada crossroads to the Paykhil area, with a length of 1.2 kilometers and a width of 13.5 meters, and it is being fundamentally built along with curbs and sidewalks.
According to the municipality, the project’s cost of 47 million Afghanis is funded from the municipality’s development budget and is expected to be completed within the next four months; a promise that residents say they hope will be fulfilled genuinely and without delay this time.
