Afghanistan’s Ambassador to Prague Calls for Permanent Technological Surveillance on Borders, Especially Durand Line

Shehzad Aryobi, Afghanistan’s ambassador in Prague, emphasized that all of the country’s borders, especially the Durand Line, must be continuously monitored using technology. He made these remarks in response to recent claims by Pakistan, which allegedly advanced along the Durand Line and included parts of Afghan-controlled territory.
Aryobi wrote on his Facebook page: “The Durand Line is a matter of Afghanistan’s national security.” He added that based on archival and previous digital data, technical tools should be used to prevent any changes to the borders and the line’s path. He stressed the importance of documenting and preserving historical and geographical records to avoid potential disputes.
Meanwhile, some media outlets have reported, along with satellite images, that Pakistan has moved the Durand Line closer to Afghan territory by installing barbed wire. These reports have raised concerns about the transparency of the border areas’ status.
The Taliban administration has denied these claims, and its Ministry of Defense has reassured that there is no cause for concern regarding the preservation of the country’s borders. However, given the historical and political sensitivity of the Durand Line, experts consistently emphasize the need for transparency, access to accurate information, and unbiased monitoring of border developments—issues that require clear and documented accountability from responsible institutions.
