Long Fuel Lines in India Amid Severe Drop in Fuel Reserves

Reports from India indicate a sharp decline in fuel reserves has led to unprecedentedly long queues at petrol stations across the country. It is said that India has only a few days’ worth of fuel left, and if the current situation persists, complete depletion of reserves is possible.
Rising demand and citizens’ fears of further shortages have caused residents in various cities to wait for hours to purchase fuel. This situation has also impacted urban mobility and economic activities.
Previously, Iran allowed only a limited number of Indian oil tankers to pass through the Strait of Hormuz. According to reports, these tankers paid an additional one dollar per barrel of oil, with average revenue from each ship estimated at around two million dollars for Iran.
With a population of over 1.5 billion, India is one of the largest energy consumers in the world, and any disruption in fuel supply could have wide-ranging economic and social consequences for the country.
