Clashes in Torkham Displace Thousands of Families

The International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) has reported that recent clashes between Taliban administration forces and Pakistan at the Torkham crossing have forced thousands of families to flee their homes. According to the organization, many of these families have lost all their possessions and are now facing severe humanitarian conditions.

The committee stated that aid efforts for the affected families have begun, with its teams present in the impacted areas. Based on provided information, cash assistance has been distributed to 3,500 displaced families in the Achin and Ghani Khel districts of Nangarhar province.

One displaced resident described the night of the conflict, saying the intense fighting in Torkham started suddenly, with rockets striking near his home. He added that as a result of these attacks, market shops were destroyed, and people fled the area in fear and uncertainty.

Abdul Karim Azizi, a staff member of the International Committee of the Red Cross in the region, confirmed that aid efforts are ongoing. The border clashes are causing heavy casualties and damage to civilians, while the responsibility to ensure the security of residents and to prevent harm to civilians remains a fundamental obligation of the involved parties—a matter that has once again been called into question by this incident.
