Local officials in Badakhshan have announced the completion and commissioning of the electricity network renovation and reform project in Baharak district. According to them, the project was implemented with the aim of reducing electricity losses and improving the quality of distribution.

Hikmatullah Akhundzada, head of Breshna in Badakhshan, stated that the project was carried out with a budget of 51,526,236 Afghanis from Breshna company’s funds. He explained that within the framework of this plan, the voltage system was upgraded from 10 kilovolts to 20 kilovolts, and three thousand analog meter poles were replaced with smart meters.

He added that the project also included the installation and activation of five small and large distribution transformer poles, construction of 3.8 kilometers of 20-kilovolt network, installation of 610 meter box poles, and creation of 19.25 kilometers of 0.4-kilovolt network.

This project is being inaugurated while Badakhshan, despite its significant water resources, experiences persistent electricity outages every winter. The residents of this province hope that the Taliban administration and responsible organizations will implement more sustainable and effective programs to address electricity shortages and prevent ongoing blackouts.
