Taliban Authorities Summon Pakistani Ambassador Over Alleged Night Attacks

The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs announced that in response to last night’s attacks attributed to Pakistan, the country’s ambassador in Kabul was summoned and a protest note was handed to him. According to a statement released by the ministry, the move was taken after the assaults were attributed to the ‘military regime of Pakistan.’ No further details regarding the location or possible casualties of the attacks were provided. The Taliban’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs emphasized in the protest note that protecting Afghanistan’s airspace is considered a ‘religious duty’ and warned that any consequences from similar future actions would be the responsibility of the opposing side. Border and security tensions between Kabul and Islamabad have increased repeatedly in recent years. Nonetheless, experts have consistently stressed the importance of diplomatic management of disputes to prevent escalation and insecurity in border areas.
