Six Arrested for Illegal Logging in Nangarhar Forests

Security officials in Nangarhar have arrested six individuals for cutting down forest trees in the Khogyani district of the province. According to the spokesperson of the Nangarhar police command, these individuals were caught by members of the Forest Protection Unit in the Waziro Tangi area while illegally harvesting trees.

Sayed Tayyab Hammad added that the arrested suspects have confessed to the act during preliminary investigations. He stated that after completing the legal procedures, the suspects will be handed over to judicial and prosecutorial authorities.

Nangarhar, located in eastern Afghanistan, is home to some areas with natural forest cover. Illegal tree cutting in recent years has raised concerns among local residents, who consistently emphasize the importance of protecting natural resources. Nevertheless, oversight, transparency in case handling, and preventing further forest destruction remain issues on which the Taliban administration is expected to provide accountability.
