Explosion at Badakhshan Mine Kills Two Workers, Injures Two Others

An explosion of explosives at a mine in Raghistan district of Badakhshan province resulted in the deaths of two workers and injuries to two others. The incident occurred on Monday, February 15. Ehsanullah Kamgar, spokesperson for the Taliban police administration in Badakhshan, stated that the victims were residents of Yeftal district. According to him, the explosion was caused by explosives used during the mining extraction process. Badakhshan is known as a province rich in mineral resources, and mining activities have increased in recent years. The Taliban administration has placed greater emphasis on mining exploitation; however, reports from various areas indicate that safety standards are seriously neglected in many mining projects. The recurrence of similar incidents in mines has raised concerns about the lack of effective oversight and worker safety. Experts emphasize that Taliban officials are obliged to implement necessary measures to protect workers’ lives and prevent such accidents from happening again.
