Taliban Orders Mandatory Nighttime Lighting in Baghlan Homes to Curb Crime

The Taliban’s Public Security Directorate in Baghlan province has issued an official directive urging residents to keep the doors and entrances of their homes illuminated at night to prevent a rise in criminal activities. The notice, released on Thursday, February 12, emphasizes that after the Isha prayer, every house must have its lights on to deter theft and unauthorized individuals.

The directive further states that individuals with financial means are required to install security cameras around their private properties. The Taliban administration says this measure aims to reduce the number of criminal incidents.

Additionally, the notice warns that no one is permitted to use any type of firecracker near hospitals and residential areas after 9 p.m.

This order comes amid recent reports of increased theft and insecurity in parts of Baghlan. Critics argue that ensuring security is a fundamental responsibility of security agencies, and shifting this burden onto citizens highlights serious challenges in security management under the Taliban administration.
