Over Six Tons of Smuggled Goods Seized in Helmand Province

According to information provided by the Information and Media Center of Helmand Province, in the past week, 6,204 kilograms of smuggled food and non-food items were discovered and confiscated at secondary customs points within the province.

The seized items include human medicines, gas heaters, and other goods, which were found in Lashkargah city, Zero point areas, and parts of the Garmser district. In connection with this incident, two individuals have also been arrested.

These developments come amid a nearly three-month halt in all trade between Afghanistan and Pakistan, a situation that has impacted markets, transit routes, and increased smuggling activities in certain border areas.

Economic experts had previously warned that a prolonged closure of official trade routes could pave the way for the expansion of smuggling and harm the livelihoods of residents in border regions—a matter that requires transparent and accountable management by the Taliban administration.
