Armed Attack on Tofan Waziri in Kandahar Leaves Former Official Injured

Local sources in Kandahar province confirm that Tofan Waziri, former advisor and spokesperson for the Chief Executive in the republic system, was injured Wednesday morning, 15th of Dalwa, due to an armed attack.

According to these sources, unknown assailants severely beat Mr. Waziri in front of his home in the Yakhkariz area of the 15th district of Kandahar city, then fled the scene. It is reported that the incident occurred early in the morning.

A source close to Waziri’s family says he was transferred to a hospital in the Aino Mina township after the attack and is currently receiving medical treatment. His health condition has not yet been officially disclosed.

During the republic era, Tofan Waziri served as an advisor and spokesperson for the Chief Executive. Sources indicate that he left Afghanistan following the fall of the republic but later returned to the country through the Taliban administration’s invitation commission.

So far, the motive behind the attack remains unclear, and Taliban local officials in Kandahar have not commented on the incident. This silence once again highlights concerns about the security situation, the protection of former officials, and the Taliban administration’s responsibility in ensuring citizens’ safety in urban areas of Kandahar.
