Four-Day Polio Vaccination Campaign Launched in 18 Provinces of Afghanistan

The spokesperson for the Ministry of Public Health announced that today, Monday, February 2, a secondary polio vaccination campaign has begun in 18 provinces across the country. This program aims to prevent the spread of poliomyelitis and will continue for four days.
According to Sharafat Zaman Amarkhail, more than seven million children under the age of five will be vaccinated during this campaign. Health officials emphasize that the regular implementation of this program is vital to breaking the chain of polio transmission in various regions of the country.
Polio, or poliomyelitis, is a highly contagious viral disease that primarily targets children and, if unvaccinated, can lead to permanent disability. Afghanistan remains one of the countries where the disease has not yet been completely eradicated.
Health experts have consistently stressed the importance of unhindered access for vaccination teams to all areas, raising awareness among families, and local community cooperation. However, these efforts have faced challenges in recent years, requiring serious attention from the Taliban administration.
