Taliban Spokesman Dismisses UN Chief’s Remarks as Internal Afghan Matter

Zabihullah Mujahid, spokesman for the Taliban administration, responded to recent remarks by the United Nations Secretary-General, stating that several issues raised concerning Afghanistan fall within the country’s internal affairs.

In an interview with TOLOnews, Mujahid claimed that the interests of Afghanistan’s residents are preserved under the ‘current system’ and that the present administration has been able to provide security and stability in the country. He further stated that in the past, despite various agreements and compromises, conflicts persisted and, according to him, there was neither security nor stability.

This comes after Antonio Guterres, the UN Secretary-General, had earlier emphasized that the establishment of an inclusive government is one of the fundamental conditions for achieving lasting peace in Afghanistan—a position repeatedly echoed by international bodies and several countries.

Despite the Taliban administration’s emphasis on security, critics argue that ignoring the political participation of diverse groups, imposing extensive restrictions on women’s rights, and excluding a large segment of society from power structures could seriously undermine sustainable peace and stability. This remains a central concern for the international community regarding Afghanistan.
