Taliban Leader Orders Seizure of Assets from Absentees Accused of Corruption

According to a new decree issued by Hibatullah Akhundzada, the leader of the Taliban administration, movable and immovable assets of individuals deemed “absent” and accused of corruption will be confiscated.

The decree, a copy of which has been provided to the media, states that the Inspection of Houses department affiliated with the now-dissolved Taliban administrative affairs will be disbanded, and all its authorities and responsibilities will be transferred to the military deputy of the group’s supreme court.

According to the order, the review and adjudication of properties and assets belonging to individuals described as “absent and engaged in corruption” will henceforth be conducted by the Taliban military courts, which operate under the direct supervision of the group’s judicial structure.

Critics argue that concentrating such extensive authority within the military and judicial bodies of the Taliban administration, without legal transparency or independent oversight, paves the way for abuse and violations of Afghan citizens’ property rights. This issue has repeatedly caused concern among residents and human rights organizations in recent years.
