Taliban Detain Three Bamyan Residents Following Armed Robbery Reports

Following reports of armed robberies in Bamyan province, the Taliban administration announced the arrest of three individuals accused of involvement in these incidents. Local sources state that the arrests took place on Wednesday, December 30th, while Taliban local officials had previously denied the occurrence of armed robberies.
According to these sources, the detainees are ordinary residents and local farmers with no prior involvement in armed activities. The sources emphasize that the arrests did not happen during a security operation but rather at night during a gathering.
Local sources say the Taliban governor in Bamyan carried out these actions to calm public opinion—a claim that has been met with negative reactions from some residents. They argue that in the local areas, access to weapons is limited exclusively to Taliban fighters, and accusations of armed robbery cannot be attributed to civilian residents.
Residents of Bamyan also express concern that these arrests may serve as an attempt to cover up the reality of insecurity and shirk responsibility from Taliban forces, rather than transparently addressing the security issues. This situation has further undermined public trust in the Taliban administration’s performance.
