Iran’s UN Mission Rejects President Trump’s Remarks, Citing Violation of UN Charter

The Permanent Mission of the Islamic Republic of Iran to the United Nations has responded to recent statements made by U.S. President Donald Trump in a letter addressed to the UN Secretary-General and the President of the Security Council, describing the remarks as a violation of the fundamental principles of the UN Charter.

In the letter, sent by Amir Saeed Iravani, Iran’s Ambassador and Permanent Representative, Trump’s statements are labeled as an “explicit threat to resort to force.” The letter further characterizes these positions as irresponsible and provocative, conflicting with the core principles of international law.

Iran’s mission warned that continuing such statements could escalate regional tensions, increase the risk of miscalculation, and pose a direct threat to international peace and security—an issue that, according to the letter, requires the serious attention of the UN Security Council.

Iravani also emphasized that in the event of any armed attack or aggressive action, Iran reserves the right to take all necessary measures to defend its sovereignty, territorial integrity, and population, holding the United States responsible for any consequences arising from such a situation.
