Mass Protests Erupt Across US Against Trump’s Immigration Policies Following Migrant Woman’s Death

Following the death of a migrant woman during a US Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation, thousands took to the streets in various cities across the country to protest against President Donald Trump’s immigration policies. Protesters demanded the impeachment and removal of the US president and called for an end to violent treatment of migrants.
In Manhattan, New York, demonstrators chanted slogans such as “No to Deporting Migrants,” urging ICE forces to leave the city. Several participants carried placards calling for changes in governance and immigration policies.
The protests spread to other states as well. In Alaska, protesters condemned Trump administration policies toward migrants, chanting against fascism and denouncing what they described as the killing, discrimination, and torture of migrants. In Seattle, demonstrators called for the dismantling of the Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency, repeatedly chanting “Power to the People.”
In Minneapolis, thousands gathered for a memorial ceremony for the woman killed by ICE agents and demanded their removal. Simultaneously, in Detroit, protesters gathered outside the ICE office to condemn the shooting of the migrant woman and marched along Michigan Avenue calling for the withdrawal of ICE forces from the state.
Michigan Democratic Senator Gary Peters described the shooting as “horrific and avoidable,” adding that the Department of Homeland Security’s accounts did not align with the facts. He warned that reckless labeling could put all American citizens at risk.
According to US media reports, the incident occurred during a large-scale immigration crackdown, sparking waves of criticism over what many consider the excessive use of force by law enforcement. Federal officials claimed the shooting was an act of self-defense; however, the mayor of Minneapolis called it unnecessary and a sign of a dangerous shift in ICE agents’ conduct.
Donald Trump, expressing full support for ICE’s actions, described the shooting as self-defense—a stance critics say perpetuates violence against migrants. Meanwhile, US media polls indicate that more than half of the American public disapprove of the Trump administration’s deportation programs.
