Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Officials and Pakistani Army Hold Security Meeting in Peshawar

Senior officials from the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa government and the Pakistani army held a meeting at Peshawar’s Corps Headquarters to agree on increased coordination in law and order and counter-terrorism efforts. The meeting was attended by Sohail Apridi, Chief Minister of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Mohsin Naqvi, Pakistan’s Interior Minister, along with several other military and civilian officials.
According to reports, both sides emphasized adopting a unified strategy for counter-terrorism operations and decided that future actions would proceed with full coordination. Key topics of discussion included the security situation in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, operations against armed groups, and ensuring stability in sensitive areas.
This meeting took place amid intensified military operations by the Pakistani army in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and the tribal regions in recent weeks. The increase in operations has raised concerns among local residents.
Manzoor Ahmad Pashtun, leader of the Pashtun Tahafuz Movement, said weeks ago that despite Pakistani officials’ claims that the operations are targeted based on intelligence, the main victims are the Pashtuns. According to him, the continuing situation has also caused a rise in internally displaced persons.
Reports indicate that about 70,000 Pashtuns have been forced to leave their homes in the Tirah region alone in recent months, highlighting again the human consequences of military operations in these areas.
