Taliban Administration Claims Unprecedented Security and Economic Growth in Afghanistan

The Department of Information and Public Relations of the Taliban-led Ministry of Foreign Affairs has declared that last year was “unprecedented” for Afghanistan in terms of security and economic growth compared to the past five decades. The official stated that full security has been established throughout the country, and war and insecurity have ended.
Hafiz Zia Ahmad Takal, in remarks reported by media affiliated with the Taliban administration, claimed that administrative corruption has been effectively controlled, economic stability has been achieved, and national revenues have increased. He added that there is a strengthened focus on self-sufficiency and that the implementation of infrastructure projects has accelerated.
The official also spoke about creating conditions for expanding regional and international economic relations, stating that the Taliban administration has managed to develop its diplomatic relations with regional and global countries while protecting sovereignty and national interests.
However, these claims come amid independent reports and evidence indicating the continuation of serious economic problems, widespread unemployment, social restrictions, and reduced access for a large portion of the population to essential services — issues that seriously call into question the portrayal of “unprecedented growth.”
Previously, the economic deputy of the Taliban-led Prime Minister’s office had said that a secure Afghanistan could represent a great economic and political opportunity for all and that this opportunity should not turn into a threat. Critics, however, consider these statements more rhetorical than reflective of the everyday realities faced by the people.
