Amrullah Saleh Criticizes US Policy Towards Taliban Governance

Amrullah Saleh, the First Vice President of the Islamic Republic of Afghanistan, has criticized Washington and its allies’ policies regarding the Taliban’s governance. Referring to his reaction to an action by current US President Donald Trump towards the President of Venezuela, Saleh highlighted the roles of the United States and Pakistan in Afghanistan’s two decades of developments.
In a message posted on the social media platform X, Saleh emphasized the involvement of the US and Pakistan over the past 20 years with the existence of the Quetta Shura, an entity recognized as one of the Taliban’s decision-making centers. He expressed disbelief that these two countries were unaware of this organization’s presence during that time.
In a sarcastic tone, he added that it seemed as though the Taliban were transported from Afghanistan to Qatar on a ‘magic carpet,’ a pointed criticism of the political relocation and regional as well as international support the group received.
Saleh also questioned the weekly transfer of 60 million US dollars in cash to the Taliban administration and expressed astonishment that these payments continue to be justified as humanitarian aid. He described this situation as an example of a dual and opaque approach towards Afghanistan’s status.
This statement continues Saleh’s earlier criticisms, which focus on the lack of accountability and the adverse consequences of foreign policies that have strengthened the Taliban’s governance while disregarding the demands of the Afghan people.
