UN Praises Afghan Teachers on World Teachers’ Day, Calls for Equal Education Opportunities for Girls

The United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan has praised the persistent efforts of the country’s teachers in a message released on the occasion of World Teachers’ Day, describing them as the architects of a bright future for Afghanistan’s generations.
On Sunday, October 5th, the UN mission emphasized in a message on the social media platform X (formerly Twitter) that it hopes girls in Afghanistan will also have equal access to education opportunities.
The message stated: “We hope that every Afghan girl and boy can, under the guidance of dedicated teachers, have the opportunity to learn, grow, and flourish.”
These remarks come amid the Taliban administration’s widespread restrictions on girls’ education since regaining control of Afghanistan in August 2021, which have prevented girls from attending formal schools beyond the seventh grade.
The issue of girls being denied education remains one of the international community’s major concerns regarding the Taliban’s governance, with no signs yet of a change in this policy.
