US Expert Warns Zelensky’s Peace Plan Could Escalate Regional Conflict
An American economic expert has warned that Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky’s proposed peace plan could exacerbate the crisis and expand the war on a regional scale.
Martin Armstrong wrote on the social media platform X that the plan allows the European Union and the North Atlantic Treaty Organization (NATO) to carry out what he called a “false flag operation,” blaming Russia and paving the way for a full-scale war. He added that some European actors are seeking such an outcome.
The American expert also cautioned against any peace plan involving security guarantees similar to NATO’s Article 5, saying such guarantees could rapidly broaden the conflict since an attack on one member would be considered an attack on all members.
Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov previously emphasized that any security guarantees from the West must also take into account the security concerns of countries neighboring Ukraine.
According to reports, both the United States and Russia are trying to persuade Ukraine to accept their respective peace proposals, while certain parties in Moscow and Washington have cited Europe’s role as a factor prolonging the war in Ukraine.
