Russia Claims Downing Ukrainian Sukhoi Fighter Amid Ongoing Conflict

The Russian Ministry of Defense announced that its forces have shot down a Ukrainian Air Force Sukhoi-27 fighter jet. According to the ministry, this incident occurred amid the ongoing clashes between the two countries.

Moscow stated that in the past 24 hours, 1,335 Ukrainian soldiers have lost their lives across various battlefronts. These figures have not been independently verified and were released as part of official Russian reports.

The Russian Defense Ministry had previously reported that during the previous night, 168 Ukrainian drones were detected and destroyed over various regions of Russia; a claim indicating the continuation of extensive reciprocal attacks.

Meanwhile, Agence France-Presse quoted Russian President Vladimir Putin as saying that Moscow sees itself on the path to victory in Ukraine. In contrast, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said his country is only “10 percent” away from peace.

Zelensky emphasized that Ukraine desires an end to the war, but not at the cost of accepting a weak agreement that would only prolong the conflict. He warned that any agreement lacking solid foundations could lead to an escalation of the war.
